Relaxing in hammocks

I don't have time to relax in hammocks. I've had some time for creating this summer, but once school starts, I don't think I'll even have time for that anymore! I'll try, but judging from last year, it's unlikely.

But I do like the idea of this card. It came from the challenge at Crazy 4 Challenges. Saturday was national hammock day, so our challenge was to create a project with a theme of relaxation. It'd be nice if I had nothing to do but lounge in the sun, but I prefer to feel productive. I always have to be knitting or reading or crafting if I'm not taking care of the kids, cooking for them or teaching them.

I used the sketch from Freshly Made, the colors from Color Throwdown, and the themes at Word Art Wednesday and Simon Says are Anything Goes.

Balloons and Bugs

CASology is a new challenge blog to me, but they are actually having their 5 year anniversary! I had fun hopping around on their blog hop yesterday, and I made this balloon-themed card to participate! I immediately thought of a hot-air balloon when I saw the balloon cue-card, so I cut this polka-dotted one from the Artiste Cricut cartridge.

I used the garden/bug theme and colors from Cupcake Inspirations, and the bug theme also fit well with the challenge from Shopping our Stash, another new-to-me challenge blog.

To make this card, I got out my ink pads that fit with the Cupcake colors, and then I got out all my stamp sets that had cute little bugs on them. I stamped the flower field in Sweet Leaf, then the bugs in Pixie, Gypsy, Canary, and Crystal Blue. I stamped the balloon from the My Sunshine stamp set, but decided to layer it with a Cricut cut using Brushed paper instead. The White Daisy panel was affixed to a Crystal Blue card base.

Come have fun with us and play along with these wonderful challenges!

Materials used:
Cardstock: White Daisy, Crystal Blue
B&Ts: Brushed
Stamps: Bee Petite Perks (Bee), All the Details (Sentiment), Splendid Day (Lady Bug), Your Own Kind of Wonderful (Butterfly), Summer Picnic (Ant), A Flowering Bunch
Ink: Gypsy, Crystal Blue, Pixie, Canary, Sweet Leaf

Summer fun

I tried to make this card on Friday, but I had to ruminate on it all weekend because it just wasn't coming together. I finally finished it last night. My hubby helped with the surfboard.

I used the colors from Color My Heart, the sketch from As You See It, and the theme of "surf's up" from Curtain Call.

I took a Glacier panel and affixed it to a White Daisy card base. I grabbed a Slate woodgrain scrap from the Dakota paper pack, and tore some Sunflower cardstock for the sand (I didn't have the new Tangerine color). I stamped the sun in Sunflower, the tree in Pear (no Willow either), and the sign on Whisper with Slate ink. My hubby cut out the surfboard from Poppy carstock and I cut it in half lengthwise and layered it onto White Daisy. I colored the trunk of the palm tree with Poppy ink and then layered some Slate over it to darken it a little. The "No Worries" sentiment is from the Hello Summer stamp set.

I hope you all come join me at these fun challenges!

Hello Cutouts

I made this card using inspiration from 3 challenges: The sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch, the Challenge from Always Playing with Paper, and, a new one to me, Fusion Card Challenge.

The Challenge was to use black and white, and only add one other color. That's always fun. I really liked the pastel colors in the photo inspiration from Fusion, so I really wanted a light peach color. I found some paper in the LE paper pack, Free to be Me, and I found my old Taffy ink to match it.

The cutout is from Artistry. I didn't have a stamp or a die with this fabulous cursive "Hello," so Cricut to the rescue!

I stamped a couple of feathers at the bottom of the card, but they look a little like waving grain. That's ok I guess! The dragonfly was inspired by the sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch.

Mother/Daughter cards

My husband went out with a friend last night, so my daughter and I had a mother/daughter crafting night! She is 10, and she really wanted to make a card with me. So I made a card and she made one. She has really specific taste, so even though she is entering the same challenges as me, she made a quite different card!

We're entering these challenges:

Freshly Made Sketches
Color Throwdown
Simon Says - Stars
Word Art Wednesday

I'll start with Leah's card:

Leah used a Lagoon card base with Pear and White Daisy for her tilted panel. She wanted a pinwheel from the Pinwheel stamp set for her focal point. She embellished with stars from the Home of the Brave stamp set, and her sentiment is from the Thoughtful Tidings set. She used Holiday Red, Honey, and Pear for her colors. Then she added stars from the Peacock Fundamental assortment and some aqua dots.

For the inside she stamped a sentiment from the Pinwheel stampset in Holiday red and added a gold puffy heart. Isn't it cute?

 Next my card:
I used Topiary for my card base and Lagoon for my tilted panel. I created a background paper by random stamping a sand dollar in Lagoon, Topiary, Tulip, and Canary on White Daisy cardstock. I then added blue and green Bitty Sparkles. For my focal point, I stamped the Starfish from Under the Sea in Tulip, then layered it with a Canary Layer, covered in Liquid Glass. The bubbles are stamped in Lagoon. The bubbles and sand dollar are from the Footloose Workshop stamp set.

The inside of the card is random stamped in the same colors with the star from the Pinwheel set. Then I added a Bible verse, Psalm 119:105, in Tulip.

Come play along with us for these challenges!

Christmas in July

This week at Color My Heart they are asking us to use Emerald, Sea Glass and Raspberry with Black, White and Silver. I did not get any of the new colors unfortunately before I quit Close To My Heart. It was hard to find similar colors because they are unique. I found raspberry in the Flirty paper pack. I guess it is the same color. Absolutely beautiful. I love this color and hopefully I can order the ink soon. Instead of Emerald and Sea Glass, I ended up using Lagoon and Glacier. It's bluer than it should be, but still pretty. Not as Christmasy as I'd hoped though.

I am entering this into the Christmas in July challenge at Merry Monday. The sketch is from CAS(E) This Sketch, and I am also entering the "Oh the Places You'll Go" challenge at Heart 2 Heart. I interpreted this for a Christmas card as "I'm going home for Christmas." I actually don't know where I'll be for Christmas this year, and I did get to spend the last Christmas before my mom died with her for the first time since I'd been married. It was such a special time and a true gift.

Fun Summer Colors

I like the colors they're asking us to use this week at Color Throwdown. They are summery, and they reminded me of the Calypso paper pack from about a year ago. I made the Calypso Workshop pages, then life spun out of control and I hadn't revisited it since. For this card I used the My Stickease and some plaid paper I found at Joanne's today that matched perfectly. It is from Core-dinations.

I used the sketch from Freshly Made, and I used plaid for the challenge at Simon Says. I am also entering this into the inspiration challenge at Word Art Wednesday.

Materials used:
Cardstock: White Daisy
B&Ts: Calypso
Paper: pink plaid core'dinations (not CTMH)
Compliments: Calypso

Color Dare 251

Hi everybody! I was browsing through the beginning of the Color Dare Challenge blog and getting sentimental about crafting. I haven't done it in so long! So, I got a sketch from Atlantic Hearts and created this useless card (because it's been a full year since we moved to Alabama!). I still like it. Isn't it pretty? I had a tough time with the lemon in this combination, so I just used a touch of it.

I used Juniper, Black, White Daisy, and Sorbet cardstock. I used Juniper ribbon and gold Shimmer Trim. The stamp sets I used are Heartwarming Hello, and the sun is from Cityscape. I stamped the sun in Sunny Yellow, since I don't have the new Lemon color. I also used some black ink and ShinHan markers.

Come play along with me at Color My Heart and Atlantic Hearts!
